I loved finally getting to meet her sweet mama, after we’ve been friends on Facebook for a little over a year now, thanks to a mutual friend. And the rest of the family was just as wonderful! I love when clients become friends…friends whom you want to invite over for BBQ. That’s how I envisioned my business.

My Baby Sister’s Baby

My sister Margaret, and her husband Will have been married for just over 2 years, and I was SO excited to find out last summer that they were expecting their first baby. I KNEW I wanted to be able to fly out to New Mexico to do their newborn photos, but I wasn’t sure how that was going to happen, since money was tight, and their due date was right around January 1st…you know…just after Christmas!

Well, I figured I would post a request for airline miles on Facebook, just in case any of my friends would want to do a trade. I’m so thankful I did that, because my friend Susan came through for me…not just with one round trip ticket for me, but also a round trip ticket for my 22 year old son, who is really close with my sister. Thank you, Jesus!

So, we headed to New Mexico, where it was snowing! YIKES! I hadn’t driven in snow in YEARS, but with God’s help, we did it. My niece’s newborn session was one of my most difficult sessions to date, but it was worth it. She’s such a precious little sweet pea! I’m not sure I’ll ever “travel” to do newborn sessions again though, because that was TOUGH! I’m thankful that I was able to borrow studio lighting and the same softbox that I use from Britt at Falling Star Photography in Albuquerque. As it was, I took 2 suitcases full of props and such!!! I was thankful my son was there to help with luggage!!!

Big Changes Coming in 2016!

I have been so blessed to work with so many wonderful people during 2015! Thank you to each and every client, for entrusting me with creating beautiful images for you and your family. This is such an incredible honor to me, that you would choose me for your portraits!

In 2016, I will be changing up the way I run my business. It is my desire to offer a more personal experience for each of my clients, helping you to select beautiful artwork for your home, that isn’t just someone’s idea of a lovely landscape or “nameless” person. The artwork I am helping you select is of people who are near and dear to you, artwork that is priceless, artwork that can be passed down for generations to come.

With this being the digital age, so many photos are “STUCK”. Stuck on discs, or thumb drives, or hard drives, or cell phones! I am guilty of this, more than you know. But I am also incredibly heartbroken, because I haven’t printed out photos like we used to back in the day. And because I haven’t, I have lost HUNDREDS of photos from the first several years of our marriage. I am guilty of not printing, but also guilty of not backing up our files. UGH! And this is heartbreaking, because I don’t have photographs to share with my family, my children. They don’t get to pore through dozens of photo albums, looking at their 22 year old brother, when he was much younger. They don’t get to look through these books, saying “I remember when we….” And this totally breaks my heart to pieces.

My mom and dad have album after album of photos from the late 60’s when they were first married, to about the time the 4th child came along. After that, photos got put in boxes and bins, but they got PRINTED! My mom just didn’t have as much time to put them in albums.

In 2016, I want to offer you the opportunity to get your photos into albums…beautiful heirlooms that your family will adore. I want to help you select the prints and gallery-wrapped canvases that will adorn the walls of your family home. The photos that will be put into frames and put on mom or dad’s desk, or sent off to grandparents, aunts, and uncles.

I want to meet with you, prior to your session, so that I can get to know you better before the camera comes out. I want you to feel comfortable enough with me, that you will relax and smile, and be happy with your family. I also want your kiddos to be comfortable with me. Generally, kids really don’t like having to sit still for photos, so if they know who I am before the session, they’re more likely to have fun in front of the camera.

 

I’m not all about “stiffly posed” portraits. I LOVE engaging families in chit-chat, silly secrets, and tickle fights. These are the times when I am able to photograph you being YOU, and these are quite often MY favorite images of you and your family, and YOUR favorites too!

I will also schedule a “Reveal” appointment after I have processed your photos, where you will be able to see all of the completely and professionally edited images in your gallery, and you will be able to order prints, canvases, albums, or other printed product at that time. I am happy to come to your home for this appointment, or I’m happy to invite you to my home for this. I have a special program that will allow me to use a photo of your wall to create a beautiful wall gallery of canvases or prints, with your images!

Once you have placed the order for your desired products, I will have them printed, and then will deliver your order to you in beautiful packaging.

This unique experience means that yes, prices will increase a little, but I promise you, if you are willing to invest, you will not be disappointed. I am working on researching the BEST labs for the BEST products for you. I want what I offer to you, to be something that is beautiful and timeless, something that you will be proud to share with friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, even the President of the United States, or the Queen of England!

One of the biggest changes I will be making is that I will be offering a V.I.C. Membership. This is for all of my Very Important Clients…which is each and every one of you! For one fee, you will be able to get portraits done for the next 2 or 5 years, with no further session fee. You will be informed of special portrait sessions that will ONLY be offered to the V.I.C Members. You will also be given first priority for seasonal portrait sessions, including Christmas sessions. When I offer a new product, YOU will be the first ones to know about it, and it MIGHT just be available to my V.I.C Members.

I have know this beautiful girl for the past 10 years, and her heart is just as beautiful as her face. Her mom is one of my close friends, and our family just loves their family. So, of course I just HAD to do her senior portraits when it came time!

I had the opportunity to rent a beautiful studio in Santa Clara, CA and this busy Class of 2016 senior and her mom just happened to have a free weekend at the same time. I had a professional makeup artist come and do her makeup, and my favorite stylist (and good friend), Shellie Roanhaus came and helped with the shoot, AND did Hannah’s hair.

The studio that I use has some GORGEOUS dresses and other pieces that we are free to use, so we took advantage of that with the soft pink dress Hannah wore with her toe shoes. Shellie had made the flower crown last year for me, and we thought it was perfect with Hannah’s coral dress.

Hannah brought some super cute pieces of her own, including this fun denim vest that we paired with a fun tutu dress and a flowered belt. Mom said that this look totally fits Hannah’s personality…a little girly, and a little tomboyish. Hannah hasn’t quite decided where she will attend college, but it looks like her major will be in Equine Science. I’m just thrilled to see how this young lady has grown, and I’m so proud of all of her accomplishments!

With the gorgeous light in the studio, and the soft white, sheer curtains, we were able to produce some beautiful images for Hannah’s senior portraits. She brought one of her dance costumes to wear, and I love how elegant she looks in it!

We did some classic dance poses, while mom danced around behind me, to get some fun, natural smiles from this sweet young lady. We always have fun at this studio! I bring the music and we just have a blast!

Spring Newborn Session Sale!

I have 3 children and one foster baby. My oldest is 21 years old, then I have an 8 year old and a 5 year old. NOT ONE of them has newborn photos! And that makes me SO sad. Really, I had no control over the 8 year old and 5 year old’s newborn photos, because we adopted them and got them long after newborn stage. But with my 21 year old, I really had no clue that there WAS such thing as newborn photos! I have a few snapshots of him when he was tiny, and I’m SO thankful for those! But you can bet that if I had known of newborn photos, I would have gotten them done. The years go by SO quickly, and pretty soon you’re fighting with them and they want to move out! Just kidding…sort of.

Believe me, I know how difficult it is to leave your home and go to a studio where you’re going to sit for a few hours while your baby is photographed, but it is SO worth it! And, I will have a comfortable chair available, so you can even take a nap if you want! There will be those weeks, and maybe even MONTHS where you are just SO exhausted that you don’t even remember what your baby looked like and how they sounded and smelled when they were so tiny. I firmly believe that photos will help evoke those memories. And if you truly aren’t able to come to my studio, I will be happy to come to you. A lifestyle newborn session can be so different from a “posed” studio session, but it can be just as sweet and memorable.

For the next two weeks, I am offering a SUPER deal on your newborn session. Book and pay for your session between now and March 14th, 2015 and your session fee will only be $225! That’s $175 off my regular price! This is the session fee only, and does not include any digital images or printed products.

There are times in my life when I meet people, and I know it’s not by accident. I realize that God intended for me to meet these people, and it’s pretty cool to see that! The Redgrave Family are some of those people. I did a model call for a baby who is sitting up, so that I could shoot some product for a vendor. Susan answered that model call with her youngest son. Since then, I have done four more photo sessions for this family. The last session I did for them was a family portrait session…something they had never done before. We did their session just a couple of weeks before they moved from CA to North Carolina…cutting it a little close! But we got it in!

Susan was so thrilled to see her photos! I had only given her ONE sneak peek…the photo below. She absolutely ADORES her guys, like you wouldn’t believe! She asked me, after seeing just this ONE photo, “How big of a canvas can we do of this photo? I want this for my office” We went with a 24×36 and I had it shipped to their new house.

Women. Mothers. Grandmothers. We have issues with our looks. We have issues with our bodies. This is something that begins at a very young age, unfortunately. My 5 year old daughter asked me a year ago why I never get in the pictures too. I was totally convicted by this, because she’s right. Because of her innocent little question, I made it a goal to be in more pictures. This included doing a glamour and boudoir photo session for my husband for his birthday last year. I NEVER thought that I would EVER do this sort of thing, because I’m very overweight and I am very critical of what I see in the mirror most of the time. This is such a shame, because I am created in the image of a most amazing and beautiful God. He is the one who created me and made me to look like I do (though I am the one who is to blame for the weight).

I am very fair skinned, and got teased SO much about it when I was younger. Even now, someone will carelessly throw out something like “Wow! You could use a tan!”. Those kinds of words HURT! Those are the words I’ve heard much of my life. Those and “You’re a cow/hippo” “You’re fat.” “You’re ugly”, etc. Some of those words came from my own dad and brothers, which hurts even more. I’m quite positive that there are MANY, MANY women who have heard such words…about their weight, their skin, their hair, their height, their facial features, their bodies.

It is my goal to turn this around. I may not be able to make a huge impact in many, but I hope to make a huge impact in a few. The reason that I began photographing women in a glamour & boudoir session is so that they could really see themselves for the beautiful women that they are. My second boudoir client had just found out two weeks prior to booking that she had breast cancer. She told me, “I’ve always wanted to do this. It’s now or never. I’ve got to do it while I still have my ‘girls’!” Wow! SO brave! And so beautiful!

I provide a glamour & boudoir photo session that is nothing short of an amazing and incredible experience that does well to boost women’s views of themselves. This experience includes a pre-consultation, so that you know what to expect, and how to shop. I will even come shopping with you, if you need me to! It includes a wonderful pampering session with a professional hair & makeup artist, and we do this to make you feel comfortable and put you at ease. Once you are comfortable, the beautiful you comes shining through! About 3 weeks after your session is complete, we will make an appointment for you to view your photos and order your prints, canvases, or albums. I can even create a “Little Black Book” for your man if that’s what you’re wanting to do!

Another client said, “I am a stay at home mommy with two young children in my forties. As most moms, we focus more on our children and families than ourselves. When I got the opportunity to participate in a boudoir session, I told myself that on my 44th year that I am going to step out of my comfort zone and do something different. I always felt that I was too heavy to take photos or be considered attractive. When I went to Angie’s studio, she and her make up artist made me comfortable. Angie made sure that I felt comfortable at all times during the session. When I eventually saw the photos, I couldn’t believe that those were me. I was blown away!! I looked beautiful. I have a Facebook page for my Glamour & Boudoir work that is separate from my other photography work, because I know that some do not want to land on a boudoir photo when they think they’re looking at babies and families. I also have a “women only”, secret group on Facebook, that is open by invitation only.

10 Day New Sawyer | San Ramon Newborn Photographer | Angie Ochoa Photography

Oh how I love newborn sessions! I feel like this is where my creativity just flows and flows like a rushing mountain spring after the snows! I love it when I get free reign to do what I like with newborns. I was actually sent this floor mat in the photo below, to photograph and share the images with the vendor. I know, pretty blessed, right?

I’m not normally one who likes purples, but lately I feel like they have just looked so pretty with the baby girls who come in for their newborn sessions. Check out the last photo in this post, where mama and baby BOTH look gorgeous against the purple backdrop!

These “swaddle sacks” are a new thing for me, and so of course I needed to try them out. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how darling they look with their matching bonnets! These are the perfect thing to get baby cozy and sleepy. They’re all swaddled up tight like they were still in mama’s tummy, and they just sack out!

I’ve really been loving the soft black and white images that I’ve seen other newborn photographers do, so I wanted to do some too. So sweet and so classic.

As we were shooting Sawyer’s newborn session, her mama was telling me about the tough things they had to go through before Sawyer was conceived. She truly is a miracle baby, and a “Rainbow Baby”. Rainbow Babies are babies who are born after a miscarriage or after an older sibling passes away, typically as a baby. The Rainbow signifies hope after the storm. What a precious reminder of God’s faithfulness to His people in the story of Noah and the Ark…the rainbow of hope after the storm.

I can’t NOT get pictures of parents with their new bundles of joy. Especially when it’s their first baby. I am always in awe of the love and joy I see in parents’ faces when they are holding these little babes. This mama is definitely no exception. Can you see the love there too? I know that those first few weeks or months can be SO exhausting, but I would encourage all new parents to get in your newborn photos. This is a time that you will want to look back at and remember, after the haziness from new baby/lack of sleep has passed.

In my previous post, I talked about some changes that I am making in 2015. I’m SO excited to be able to offer you a full service experience of assisting you in creating a gorgeous wall art collection with the family photos that I have taken for your family. I am happy to come to your home, measure your space, talk about what works well in your space, and guide you in purchasing the perfect collection for your family. I know that sometimes it’s difficult to picture how something will look on your wall, so I’m here to help you with that!

Take a look at this collection in the above photo. I know this family fairly well, as they are friends of ours, and I know what their home looks like. I also know that family is everything to them. These parents LOVE their kiddos, and make time for them, so of course showcasing their photos is definitely not a stretch! This collection of images shows how close-knit this family is, and it shows off each individual child. The brother is ferociously protective of his sister, and loves her with such a sweetness. I wanted to help this family to show their personalities through this collection.

I am able to take a photograph of the wall or walls that you’re looking to fill with photographs. I can put those photos into a program that I have that creates various different collections, using YOUR photos, until you see something that SINGS out to you!
